Greetings, and thank you again for making it to my website!
I am a Music Education major studying at Michigan State University, and completing my student teaching in Okemos, MI. Thanks to my placement at the Kinawa 5-6 Middle School program, I have had the opportunity to work with multiple band classes at Kinawa, notably beginning 5th grade band. Teaching band-fundamentals has given me opportunities to grow my own ‘teaching toolbox’ while implementing new strategies for my students to better refine their musicianship and technique. My experiences leading the large-group ensemble rehearsals has been very rewarding and I love seeing the musical growth of the young students!
My musical journey began at a young age, picking up the flute in 4th grade beginning lessons under the instruction of Wendy Hohmeyer in Midland, MI. I was fortunate to grow up in a wonderful music program, and it changed my life. I went to music summer camps every year, have traveled around America and overseas because of music and met countless lifelong friends. These transformative experiences, like playing in a 500-year-old cathedral in France or performing at historic sites like Masada in Israel are once in a lifetime, and only happened because of my connection with music. As a teacher, I hope to give my students successes and a community, an all-inclusive class dedicated to developing lifelong music appreciation and permanent memories.
When not teaching in the classroom I love spending time with friends, exploring the outdoors, visiting new places, and pampering my tiny rescue dog, Sunny.
